This blog started as a repository for family recipes. Over the years since inception this thing has become a mash up. I’ve spent the better part of my working life learning about what kills people. My other blog didn’t feel like the right place for stories like this. So if we’re passing along article links about food you’ll find plenty here.
I hope readers find this type of information useful. I’m not going to discourage anyone from eating nasty fried fast food chicken nuggets processed in China from unsanitary chickens raised and slaughtered in Chile.
It’s your personal choice.
Last September, the FDA issued a news release cautioning that homeopathic teething tablets and gels may be harmful to babies and children, and issued a strong recommendation to not use them. This action was taken in response to reports of the teething products causing the illnesses of hundreds of infants and deaths of approximately ten babies. The move prompted some pharmacies to remove them from their shelves, which is great, except the bottles shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Pharmacies are not supposed to sell witchcraft.

Many years ago I asked one of the country’s top endocrinologists what I could do to avoid developing diabetes. His answer was short and simple:
Stay as thin as you can as long as you can.
Be nice to your pancreas!
Researchers have found — for the first time — that a diet yielding high amounts of the short-chain fatty acids acetate and butyrate provided a beneficial effect on the immune system and protected against type 1 or juvenile diabetes.

I’ve trying to have tea every day but I keep forgetting.
Mac and cheese, chili, eggs, hash browns, omelets, buffalo wings—probably not what you’re thinking of when you hear “burger toppings.” What happened to the good old days when a burger was a patty, a bun, and maybe some lettuce, tomato, and mayo?
